In September of last year, the Shanghai Exit-Entry and Public Security Bureau issued a new electronic–Exit Entry Permit (e-EEP)/Tong Xing Zheng that directly affects Taiwan residents in Shanghai, China.

This permit authorizes residents of Taiwan to visit or reside in China, and the change is a way to facilitate travel between the two and expedite security.

Here are the changes to expect:
  • The new electronic Exit Entry Permit (e-EEP)/Tong Xing Zheng for adults will be valid for a maximum of 5 years.
  • Applicants between 16 to 60 years old are required to be finger-printed for identification purposes at the Shanghai Exit-Entry and Public Security Bureau.
  • As of September 21st, 2015 the local branch offices of the Exit-Entry and Public Security Bureau in Shanghai have begun accepting initial or renewal applications for the Exit Entry Permit/Tong Xing Zheng.
Recommendations for the change:
SIRVA recommends that applicants visit the headquarters of the Exit-Entry and Public Security Bureau located at No. 1500 Minsheng Road, PuDong area, Shanghai to submit any Exit Entry Permit (e-EEP)/Tong Xing Zheng applications.

Existing Exit Entry Permit/Tong Xing Zhen which are still valid can be used and the holder must convert to the new e-EEP at the point of the next renewal.
